Music at the Walters
Following the Skomorokhi and the Bells of Novgorod

In conjunction with the Walters' exhibit, The Glory of Medieval Novgorod, the Poulenc Trio Presents: Following the Skomorokhi and the Bells of Novgorod. Novgorod is well-known as the birthplace of Rachmaninoff and is famous for its ancient church bells. Less well known are the forgotten musician minstrels of Novgorod, the Skomorokhi. Chronicled in folklore as early as the tenth century, the Skomorokhi were resourceful artists popular in all levels of society despite frequent condemnations from the Russian Orthodox Church. In Following the Skomorokhi, the Poulenc Trio will perform music from modern Russian masters and explore Novogorod's rich musical traditions.

Join special guest WBJC-FM Classical Radio Host Jonathan Palevsky and the Poulenc Trio for this not to be missed event.
