Poulenc Trio Welcomes Guest Stars to New University of Baltimore Series

The Poulenc Trio, the world's foremost piano wind trio, launches a new concert series in Baltimore for the 2009-2010 season.  The two-concert series, which takes place at the University of Baltimore's Performing Arts Theater, showcases the Trio in performances with famed clarinetist and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient Anthony McGill, and with internationally recognized soprano Hyunah Yu.  The concerts are produced in collaboration with the University of Baltimore and with An Die Musik Live.

The first concert will take place on September 25, 2009, and will feature Hyunah Yu.  Yu, who currently resides in Baltimore, made her trailblazing operatic debut in the title role of Peter Sellars' Zaide with the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center.  She has since stunned audiences around the world with the poignant beauty of her voice.  With the Poulenc Trio, Yu will perform rarely-heard art songs, as well as more modern fare.

For the second concert, on March 26, 2010, the Trio will welcome Anthony McGill. McGill currently serves as the principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York, and recently gained worldwide attention for his performance of Aaron Copland's "Simple Gifts" at the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama.  McGill will join the Poulenc Trio for an evening of thrilling repertoire for winds and piano.

The Poulenc Trio has toured extensively across the United States and at festivals around the world, including the White Nights Festival in Russia with violinist Hilary Hahn, the Ravello Festival in Italy and the Festival San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.  The Trio was recently featured in a live performance on National Public Radio's Performance Today in a program entitled "Great Pianists."  The Trio has a long standing commitment to works of living composers, and has commissioned many new works, including two new concerti for Trio and Orchestra.
